The other is that someone has won something but needs to provide a credit card to claim the prize. Citizens are urged to be very cautious if they receive any type of telephone call from someone or some organization they do not know.
The police were dispatched to a report of an assault at a residence on Jan. 7. Investigation revealed that a 32-year-old woman barged her way into the residence, assaulting both the 50-year-old woman homeowner and a 30-year-old female guest. The 32-year-old woman was subsequently located and is facing two charges of assault and will be making a court appearance. This is an isolated incident where the people are known to each other.
The Weyburn Police responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 39 near the rail crossing on Jan. 8. A vehicle was stopped at the train track crossing when it was struck from behind by the other vehicle. A 46-year-old male driver of the stopped vehicle was transported to the Weyburn General Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Also on Jan. 8, police responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Fifth Street at Prairie Avenue. A vehicle was travelling south on Fifth Street when it collided with a vehicle travelling east on Prairie Avenue.
The 45-year-old male driver of the eastbound vehicle was charged with proceeding from a stop sign before safe. He sustained minor injuries and was checked out at the hospital. The 36-year-old female driver of the other vehicle was uninjured.
Weyburn police are actively investigating a report of a 39-year-old woman who was assaulted in her residence by an unknown person on Sunday. The victim had been asleep in her apartment when she heard a noise at her door; upon opening it she was assaulted by an unknown female person who then fled. The victim received minor injuries.
Although no suspect has yet been identified, it is likely that this is not a random incident and that the victim believes she was targeted.
City police were called to a local VLT outlet on Jan. 7. A patron had been playing a machine when she stepped away for a moment. An unknown male took this as an opportunity to cash out the machine receiving a ticket for over $100. The outlet was able to cancel the ticket so it could not be cashed and refunded the patron the amount of the winnings. Although captured on video the suspect remains unknown.
The police were called to a local business regarding an issue with an unruly customer on Jan. 9. As a result of police intervention the store received its property back and the 25-year-old man was issued a ban from the store.
As a result of a parking complaint on Jan. 9, a vehicle was located in Weyburn and determined to have been stolen from the Lumsden RCMP area. The vehicle was recovered and the Weyburn police are assisting the RCMP in the investigation.
Police were dispatched to a report of two people fighting in the street on Jan. 6. Upon arrival both people had returned to the house and were having a heated verbal disagreement. A 66-year-old man and 65-year-old woman were involved. The female was given a ride to her residence. No further police action was required. Alcohol was a contributing factor.
Police were dispatched to a report of a domestic disturbance on Jan. 9.
Upon arrival the police found a 40-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman in a very heated verbal exchange. The police were successful in mediating the dispute with the man, as he agreed to go elsewhere for the evening.
City police conducted a traffic stop of an unregistered vehicle on Friday.
As a result the 28-year-old male driver was issued a ticket for driving an unregistered vehicle. As well a 27-year-old male passenger was found to be in breach of conditions found in a release document.
The police were dispatched to a report of hysterical person in the street on Sunday. Upon police arrival they found an intoxicated 21-year-old woman who was screaming and crying. This person was arrested for being drunk in public and lodged in police cells until sober.
