The Weyburn Police Service dealt with a vehicle theft, mischief and some minor vehicle accidents over the past week. Police received a report of a vehicle being stolen from the Junior High parking lot on Sunday.
The Weyburn Police Service dealt with a vehicle theft, mischief and some minor vehicle accidents over the past week.
Police received a report of a vehicle being stolen from the Junior High parking lot on Sunday. The vehicle had been parked unlocked with the keys in the vehicle. Police later found the vehicle undamaged near the downtown area. The incident remains under investigation. Motorists are reminded not to leave parked vehicles unlocked and do not to leave keys in any unattended vehicle.
While on patrol on Aug. 3, a member of the Weyburn Police Service observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was subsequently stopped and as a result of the investigation the driver, a 30-year-old male, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with driving while prohibited. He was released from custody and will be appearing in court in September.
On Aug. 3, police attended to the River Park campground after receiving a report of a group of youths who had stayed at a site overnight and then left, stealing firewood, and not paying. The investigation into this incident continues.
While on patrol in the early morning on Aug. 5, a member of the Weyburn Police Service located a vehicle rolled in the ditch at the intersection of 16th Street and Highway 39. Upon checking the scene it was found the driver had fled. Members were able to locate the driver, a 22-year-old male, later that morning. As a result of the investigation the driver was charged with driving without due care and attention, operating an unregistered vehicle and failing to report an accident.
The Weyburn Police Service received reports of an erratic driver on Sixth Street on Aug. 5. The suspect vehicle was stopped and the driver, a 57-year-old male, showed signs of impairment. The driver was taken to the Weyburn Police Service for a breath analysis and as a result he was charged with impaired driving and driving while over .08. The accused was later released from custody and will appear in court in August.
The Weyburn Police Service received a report on Aug. 6 of a theft from motor vehicle which had been parked overnight in Metheral Bay. A number of small items were reported stolen.
Motorists are reminded to lock your vehicle when unattended and not to leave any valuables in the vehicle.
The Weyburn Police Service received a report of an individual who had been bitten by a dog on Aug. 6.
The victim was treated in hospital for a minor bite wound. The subsequent investigation located the owner of the dog, who was charged under the bylaw for allowing a dog to run at large.
The Weyburn Police Service received a call of a semi trailer unit striking a light standard on Government Road and First Avenue NE on Thursday. The semi was stopped and the driver, a 59-year-old male was interviewed. The accident remains under investigation.
The Weyburn Police Service attended to the 1700 Block of East Avenue on Friday, for a two-vehicle accident. The one vehicle had backed into another vehicle which was illegally parked. No charges were laid in this incident.
The Weyburn Police Service attended to the 100 Block of Third Street SE regarding a motor vehicle accident on Friday. The accident occurred when the one vehicle had backed into another vehicle. The driver, a 77-year-old male, was charged and given a ticket for backing a vehicle when unsafe.
Police attended to a residence on First Avenue SW for a noise complaint on Friday; the resident of the dwelling, a 34-year-old male was charged under the noise bylaw and advised to keep the noise down. A few hours later police again received calls about the noise and re-attended to the residence. The 34-year-old male was arrested for mischief and later released with a second charge under the noise bylaw.
