Quota International of Weyburn launched the 14th annual Women of the Year Awards event on Monday and is encouraging community members and businesses to nominate outstanding women from Weyburn and area.
The four awards are the SaskPower Workplace Excellence Award, the Quota International of Weyburn M. Isabelle Butters Community Service Award, the Access Communications Exceptional Entrepreneur Award and the Investors Group Young Woman of Distinction Award.
Nominees for the workplace excellence award should display a large amount of effort and a true desire to improve her profession, work environment or workplace efficiency.
The Quota International of Weyburn M. Isabelle Butters Community Service Award was renamed this year in honour of long-time Quota member, Isabelle Butters.
Quota president Lorraine Wilkinson said the Quota Club in Weyburn was able to thrive, in large part, due to the contributions and mentorship of Isabelle Butters, who said she would "try to live up to it".
The community service award is designed to honour a woman who, as a volunteer, demonstrates a commitment to enrich her community, to ending social inequities, strengthening volunteer participation and to educate or provide leadership.
The exceptional entrepreneur award will be presented to a woman with strong leadership skills or who embraces innovation in starting, operating or owning a business.
The young woman of distinction award will be presented to a woman between the ages of 18 and 30 who has made significant contributions to the community and who has demonstrated the ability to lead in the future.
"This is the one where we are looking to the next generation of women," said Norma Buydens, awards committee co-chair.
All nominations are due on Friday, March 7, and a tea to recognize all the nominated women will be held on Sunday, March 23. The annual awards luncheon will be held on Monday, April 7, at which Dr. Joyce E. Bellous will be the keynote speaker.
Dr. Bellous lived in Weyburn briefly a long time ago when her husband was pastor at the Calvary Baptist Church, and she has since published seven books, taught at three different universities and presented her research in 11 countries.
