Sculptor applauded at statue unveiling

Internationally-renowned sculptor Lea Vivot stands next to her bronze statue of Tommy Douglas just moments after it was unveiled publicly for the first time on Friday afternoon, as dignitaries and the large crowd of onlookers all applaud.

Internationally-renowned sculptor Lea Vivot stands next to her bronze statue of Tommy Douglas just moments after it was unveiled publicly for the first time on Friday afternoon, as dignitaries and the large crowd of onlookers all applaud. The dignitaries include, from left, federal NDP leader Jack Layton, MP Ed Komarnicki, actor and Douglas' grandson Kiefer Sutherland; at rear is Isabelle Butters, and at right are Mayor Debra Button and provincial NDP leader Dwain Lingenfelter. Vivot toiled for over two years making this bronze statue, which she gave as a gift to the City of Weyburn, and it was installed near the Riverfront Boardwalk, and is visible from Highway 39.
