Air Canada announced Wednesday it is suspending direct flights from Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal airports to Beijing and Shanghai.

Air Canada announced Tuesday that it will be temporarily suspending all scheduled flights to the U.S. after April 26 for about one month.

The measure is due to the federal government’s agreement with the Trump administration to extend the border restrictions for another 30 days, according to the airline.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed Saturday that the Canada-US border closure would be extended.

Flights to the US should resume May 22, according to Air Canada, although that date is ultimately dependent upon whether the government announces any further border restrictions.

Air Canada will also said that affected customers can change their flights for free.  Customers with flights during this period should consult the airline’s rebooking policies and revised schedule on Air Canada’s website.

“Since March 16, Air Canada has reduced its schedule by more than 90 per cent as a result of COVID-19,” reads a statement from the airline.

“Following the initial announcement of US-Canada travel restrictions March 21, Air Canada maintained limited service to 11 US destinations from its three Canadians hubs, primarily to facilitate the repatriation of Canadians.”

The airline says the last scheduled commercial flight from the US to Canada will be on April 26.
