According to the latest numbers released Tuesday from the province, Saskatchewan has added eight new, confirmed cases of COVID-19 to bring the total in the province to 184.
Of those cases, four are in hospital, with three receiving inpatient care in Saskatoon while one person is in intensive care in Regina.
The eight new cases are the lowest increase since six days ago, but in a news release the province is urging people not to let up their preventative efforts.
“Today’s number of new cases may be the lowest in a week, but it’s important not to get complacent with precautions for COVID-19,” the province stated. “It’s as important as ever to stay home whenever possible, and to avoid close contact (a minimum of two metres) with others to prevent spreading the virus.
“People who have been diagnosed with COVID-19, travellers returning from international destinations, including the United States, and those who have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 are required to self isolate under the current public health order.
“There are reports of people across the province disregarding these directives, which will only increase the amount of time it takes to flatten the curve. Do your part to help protect yourself, your neighbours and your community.”
Overall in the province, most cases of COVID-19 are either travel or cluster-related from mass gatherings, but nine cases are reported that are the result of local transmission.
The regional breakdown is 90 cases from Saskatoon, 39 from Regina, 37 from the north (which includes the Battlefords-Prince Albert area), nine from the central region, six from the south and three from the far north. The breakdown is 55-45 percent, males-females.
The age breakdown is six cases 19 years of age and under; 83 are ages 20-44; 64 are ages 45-64; and 31 are 65-plus range.
Two deaths have been reported to this point and we know now that one of those two COVID-19 deaths was from the Battlefords. There were no additional deaths reported in the latest update.
A total of 21 people have recovered, with seven more people having recovered according to the latest figures. A total of 10,216 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the province, which is up 475 from yesterday.
Provincial chief medical health officer Dr. Saqib Shahab will not be holding a news conference today. Instead, a news conference has been scheduled for 3 p.m. when social services minister Paul Merriman is to announce COVID-19 measures regarding social services in the province, including some additional funding..
