New exhibits of art are now on display at Weyburn’s art galleries.

The Paper Wildlife Conservancy exhibit, by Cate Francis, is on display at the Allie Griffin Art Gallery on the lower level of the Weyburn Public Library for the months of November and December.

There will be an artist reception on Friday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m., and the following day, Francis will put on a screen printing workshop from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Signal Hill Arts Centre.

The price of the workshop was initially $150, but with the support of the Weyburn Arts Council, the price has been reduced to $70, which includes the supplies needed.

In this workshop, you will learn how to screen print an edition of your own hand-drawn original artwork onto paper. The workshop covers image and screen preparation, ink mixing, setting up for printing, and printing a multi-colour edition. The session will include information about how to make your own do-it-yourself print setup.

The exhibit, “Masks We Wear”, featuring photographs by Sabrina Kraft, are on display at the Signal Hill Arts Centre for November and December. An artist reception will be held on Friday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m.

The exhibit, “Faces and Places” by Dallin Chicoine will be on display in the Weyburn Credit Union Gallery, also for November and December, open during the Credit Union’s normal business hours.

The Weyburn Arts Council will be hosting Gifted (formerly known as 4 Festive Floors) on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cugnet Centre.

This show will feature handmade arts and crafts with a holiday theme, with over 50 artists, artisans and craftspeople to be in attendance.

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) will have a gift-wrapping booth set up at the show, and an information booth for Creative Kids will also be available.

Entries are now being accepted for the 36th annual James Weir People’s Choice exhibition. The registration forms are available from now until Dec. 20, by emailing to weyburnartscouncil@weyburn.ca.

The show will be on display from Jan. 7 to Feb. 27, 2020, in the Allie Griffin Art Gallery with voting by viewers throughout the show for their favourite works of art. Voting will end on Feb. 21, and a reception and announcement of the winners will be held on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. in the Allie Griffin gallery.
