“The Sundrops” enjoy pursuing their dream of sharing their music, and are looking forward to performing at the Cugnet Centre for the Communithon Concert Jam on Saturday, October 21.
Their roots started in Grande Prairie, Alta., where they were born and started musical lessons in violin, piano and voice. In 2011, they moved to Swift Current, where they continued with more lessons. They officially created their band “The Sundrops” in 2013. Since then, they have entertained at market squares, seniors’ homes, churches, jamborees, fundraisers, and doing their own shows in various theatres
The Sundrops play a variety of instruments, including piano, guitar, violin, viola, cello, drums, harmonica, ukulele, bass and percussion, and each member of the band can blend their voices to make beautiful harmonies. The members of “The Sundrops” include Hailey (age 16), Darian (age 14), Lara (age 12), and Jesse (age 11).
A variety of music is offered by “The Sundrops”. They have composed a number of their own songs and have performed twice at the Canadian Gospel Showcase in Red Deer, Alta. They do a variety of family friendly music including old rock, from The Beatles, ABBA, Bob Dylan to Elvis and top hits from today. It keeps changing so you have to be there.
In January 2017, they did a three-week tour to Phoenix and were also showcased in Arizona in March. Highlights of the year included opening twice for the “Duttons” in Phoenix, being invited to Minot, North Dakota, for the Scandinavian Host Festival, and performing during this year’s Telemiracle. Already they are booking into January, March and April for tours back to Arizona in 2018.
According to “The Sundrops”, a lot of work goes into lessons and band practice, while still keeping up with their education through home schooling while on the road. They continue to pursue their dreams, knowing that nothing is impossible with God.
As Canadian musicians, “The Sundrops” gain inspiration from listening to the radio, popular music from iTunes, movie soundtracks, old records, and music their parents and grandparents listen to. A big influence is for the band members are their teachers, personally meeting artists like Link Union and listening to Justin Bieber.
There is definitely an exciting part of live performances for “The Sundrops”, and the band feels that these performances are exciting “because music makes people happy, we get to see the faces of those people light up, and the energy. It’s fun travelling in our bus, where we write songs, and have the opportunity to meet new people and seeing different places.”
“The Sundrops” are excited to meet other fellow artists and new fans during the Communithon Concert Jam. The 36th annual Communithon will be held at the Cugnet Centre on Friday, October 20 and Saturday, October 21.
