An invitation has been extended to all southeast communities to join the Southeast Sport, Culture and Recreation District virtually to celebrate the past year’s activities. They are facilitating a virtual annual meeting on Thursday, May 27, at 6 p.m., in response to restrictions on gathering during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The South East District will present two special guest speakers as part of the 2021 Annual General Meeting, including Regan Lanning, curator for the Weyburn Arts Council, and Mayor Ryan Reiss of the Town of Vibank.

These local leaders will share their innovative and inspiring projects and ideas completed during one of the most difficult years, 2020. Learning from peers is one the best ways to spark new ideas within your own community.

Regan Lanning (shown above, teaching clay at the WAC's art camp) will talk on the theme, “Re-imagined art programming during the pandemic”. Right now, art and creativity in all its forms are more important than ever. The Weyburn Arts Council (WAC) found new, innovative ways to promote and celebrate art in the community in the past year, while having many of their regular programs and events cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Regan will share their strategies for adapting to keep arts alive and moving forward, as well as examples of their cutting-edge programs and events.

Planning for Recreation in Small Town Saskatchewan
Mayor Ryan Reiss will speak on the topic of planning for recreation in small town Saskatchewan. Vibank, with a population of 400, is proof that any community can engage in planning processes to guide the development and delivery of recreation services for the future.

In 2020, the Vibank Recreation Board received funding from the South East District Community Recreation Plan Grant. Their board designated time and resources to assess community needs and establish priorities for future. Ryan will share what this project meant to their community and how they did it.

The agenda for the AGM will include the following items:

• To receive the financial statements and the report of the District’s auditor

• To appoint the auditor for the ensuing year

• To elect directors to the Board

• To receive the annual report of the District

• To review the bylaw changes brought forward

Although this will be a virtual meeting, South East District will reimburse a take-out/order-in meal at the per diem rate of $21. A claim form will be provided to all registered AGM delegates.

This is an important event for sport, culture and recreation volunteers and professionals to attend, and this is your chance to learn more about what the district offers. There is no cost to attend.

The South East District annual report can be viewed via their website, and the 2020-21 audited financial statement will be emailed to those who register or can be requested 15 days prior to the event.

The Zoom app, accessed using your web browser, is being used for the AGM and instructions will be provided with a meeting link one day prior to the event to those who pre-register. Pre-registration is required by completing the registration form prior to Friday, May 21.
