The Weyburn Concert Series met for their annual general meeting on Wednesday evening at the library.

President, Linda Aitken welcomed those in attendance, and introduced new board members Bonnie Adacsi-Cooke and Stella Swertz.

The mission of promoting the arts by bringing quality, diverse performing art at affordable prices was shared. Annual reports from the executive and committee heads reiterated that common mission statement.

The 50th Anniversary year of celebrations for the Weyburn Concert Series was a success, with seven concerts in the season, one of which was Jann Arden, a big name concert for our small community.

In addition, Weyburn Concert Series brought in a hoop dancer, who did three performances for all the public school children in Weyburn. Targeting a much younger audience, the Concert Series, in partnership with the Public Library, brought in a wonderful story-teller, who delighted over 100 pre-school children.

Membership reached an all time high this past year, with 638 people purchasing season tickets. With those numbers, Concert Series needed to be cognizant of advance and at the door ticket sales for some of the concerts, which was a nice concern to have after a 50-year history.

In summary, a small financial loss was negated by the overall success of all the past year’s endeavours.

President Aitken said the Weyburn Concert Series is looking forward to yet another wonderful concert season, with their first concert coming up on Thursday, Sept. 26 at the Cugnet Centre.

The concert, entitled “The Jersey Boys Jukebox”, will be a tribute to the Jersey Boys, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
