Weyburn Rotary Club president Nancy Styles presented Weyburn dancer Autumn Alexander with a donation of $500, to go towards Autumn’s upcoming trip to Poland to represent Canada at the World Ballet, Jazz and Modern Championships on Dec. 1-8.

Autumn will be part of three groups dancing at the world-level dance competition, including as part of a large jazz dance group, a large modern dance group and a small modern dance group.

As there is no government support for the group from Team Canada Dance, Autumn has to raise all of her own monetary support for the trip, including air fare and accommodations, a choreography fee and costumes.

Part of her preparation is flying out to Surrey, B.C., for rehearsals with her dance groups, and she has about four more rehearsal weekends to take in before they leave for Poland.

She spoke to the Rotary Club on Thursday about her upcoming trip, and about her dancing in general, including her plans to go into choreography afterwards as well as pursuing post-secondary education.
