The 36th annual James Weir People’s Choice Exhibition opened on Jan. 7 at the Allie Griffin Art Gallery, with 22 works of art entered this year, and voting closed on Feb. 21.

The reception for the competition will be held on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m., also at the Allie Griffin gallery, when the top vote-getters in the exhibition will be unveiled. The reception will include refreshments, with catering provided by the Rolling Pin Bakery.

The annual exhibition gives amateur artists from the southeast region an opportunity to enter art work and have it judged by the viewing public, who were able to cast a ballot for their top three favourite pieces from the show.

The artists names were not on the art works, and the pieces entered were recent works that have never been shown in the Allie Griffin gallery before.

There were a wide variety of mediums used, with paintings, drawings and photographs, with stained glass set into a wagon wheel and a sculpture of a robot also among the 22 pieces.

The artists names will be added to the displays now that the voting is finished, and the artists will be acknowledged at the reception.
