The Weyburn Chapter of Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) were honoured as Chapter of the Year at the Saskatchewan Association of Licensed Practical Nurses (SALPN) annual meeting held in Regina recently.

The Weyburn LPN Chapter was started in September 1989. The chapter had also been active for some years in the 1970's. The group applied to restart the chapter, to the professional organization named SACNA, Saskatchewan Association Certified Nursing Assistants. There were 14 members involved at that time. Since then, the professional name has been changed to Licensed Practical Nurse and the members belong to the professional organization of Saskatchewan Association of Licensed Practical Nurses. SALPN regulates Licensed Practical Nurses.

The chapter is governed by this association and responsible for their own skills and provision of professional, competent, and ethical care.

The Chapter meets at least four times per year and are here to support fellow LPN's, discuss work issues that arise, and promote the profession in a positive manner. The group has held fundraisers, charity sponsored education, education seminars, and held meetings between the chapter, management and the union, to understand each other better.

Three of the members of the Weyburn Chapter have been represented on the SALPN throughout the years. Heather Cugnet and Pat Hood served on council and both held the position of President. Janice Wagner is now on SALPN council and became President Elect this year at the annual general meeting.
