Alberta youth, 15, charged with cocaine trafficking in Weyburn

The Weyburn Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Unit, assisted by the Weyburn Police Service Patrol Unit, the Estevan Police Service Drug Unit and the Estevan Police Service Canine Unit executed a drug search warrant In the early afternoon hours of May 7th, at an apartment residence in the north-central area of the Weyburn.

As a result a 15-year-old male from Edmonton, Alta., who cannot be named pursuant to the Youth Criminal Justice Actand a 49-year-old Weyburn male were arrested at the scene without incident.

The youth has been charged with trafficking in cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession of proceeds of crime (cash) exceeding $5,000, a minor possessing cannabis, four counts of breach of probation and one count of breaching a recognizance. The youth was remanded into custody to appear in Provincial Court via telephone on Monday, May 11.

Seized in the search was cocaine with an approximate street value of $8,600, a large amount of cash and a small amount of marijuana.

The 49-year old male was released without charges at this time, but as the investigation continues to unfold, further charges may result.

The Weyburn Police Service is committed to combatting drug trafficking in the City of Weyburn and will continue these efforts.
