The Weyburn Police Service experienced a busy week with 108 calls for service during the week of June 7-13, resulting in 15 charges under the Traffic Safety Act and nine charges under the Criminal Code of Canada. Of the nine criminal charges, six involved incidents of failing to comply with a condition of release, two involved incidents of assault, and one was related to harassment.
On a high note, June 11 was a very unique day for the Weyburn Police Service as the streets of Weyburn were kept safe by an all-female team of officers. Although other officers were on duty within the office, the all-female team of Const. Melinda Mintenko, Const. Alyssa Kaczmar, Const. Lisa Robertson, and Communications Officer Tammie Daniel, fielded the calls for service that Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. This is the first time in the history of the Weyburn Police Service that a team of four female officers were assigned to such a task.
On a very somber note, tragedy struck the policing nation early Saturday morning of June 12, as a young RCMP officer lost his life while performing the duty he swore an oath to uphold.
With very heavy hearts, members of the Weyburn Police Service express the most sincere condolences to the officer’s family, friends, co-workers, and all that knew him. The tragic incident occurred very close to our home community of Weyburn, and serves as a harsh reminder that no day is “routine” in policing. It’s a dangerous profession, and even more dangerous when a “life or death” situation often appears without warning.
