City police clarifies role in enforcing COVID-19 restrictions

The Weyburn Police Service would like to remind everyone of the process for reporting potential violations of the Covid-19 Public Health restrictions. The public is being asked to report directly to the referral line at 1-855-559-5502. This line if for non-health inquiries.

If you have a health-related inquiry about yourself, please contact 811 who will assist you with your concerns.

Any reports received by the police, with the exception of a select few types of incidents (i.e. crowd size) are referred to Public Health for investigation and recommendation. The police are only taking direct enforcement action in emergency cases or as directed by Public Health.

As a lot of concerns called into police are related to self-isolation, please visit the Government website which details what exactly self-isolation means.

Just because someone is out of their residence does not necessarily mean they are in violation of the self-isolation requirement. At this time, self-isolation is just that, it should not be confused with mandatory quarantine.

Visit www.saskatchewan.ca/covid19 for further information and for easy access to the actual Public Health Orders.

Residents are reminded to engage in physical distancing of a minimum two metres (or six feet) and wash your hands with soap and water numerous times a day.

The Weyburn Police Service remains open for business with all calls being dealt with. The police have introduced some modified processes to ensure both the safety of the staff and the safety of the public.
