The Weyburn Police Service responded to 99 calls for service during the week of July 12-18, resulting in a total of 25 charges. Of the charges, five were traffic related, 18 were under the Criminal Code of Canada, and two were under the Controlled Drugs & Substances Act.

Emergency Medical Services requested officers attend the scene of a suspected fentanyl overdose of an adult male on the evening of July 13. Upon arrival to the scene officers found the individual had been administered naloxone by a friend and was conscious and declining medical help. The Weyburn Police Service would like to remind that under the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act no one who seeks emergency medical or law enforcement assistance because that person or another person is suffering from an overdose is to be charged or convicted for drug possession if that offence was obtained or discovered as a result of that person having sought assistance or having remained at the scene.

In the late hours of July 14, while on routine patrol, officers performed a traffic stop of a vehicle for an offence under the Vehicle Equipment Regulations Act. Through officer’s observations of the driver, an impaired driving investigation began. A demand was made to provide a sample for analysis on an approved drug-screening device. The resulting analysis was positive for cannabis and the driver subsequently received a 3-day license suspension, vehicle impoundment and ticket for a Vehicle Equipment regulation offence. This incident is still under investigation and further charges may result.

Officers of the Weyburn Police Service patrolled the very successful Weyburn Fair held July 15-18. While largely peaceful, officers did respond to several calls for service ranging from parking complaints, keeping the peace, harassment, mischief, causing a disturbance and offences under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act. On July 18, officers were requested to attend the event regarding an aggressive intoxicated adult male; as a result officers arrested the male for being drunk in a public place.

Officers received a complaint regarding a vehicle mischief on the 800 Block of Bison Avenue on the morning of July 16.
Upon officers arrival they observed the complainant’s car had all four tires slashed. This occurrence is still under investigation and anyone with information regarding this crime is encouraged to contact the Weyburn Police or Crime Stoppers.

In the afternoon of Sunday, July 18, the Weyburn Police Service responded to a report of an assault and an unconscious male in the intersection of 3rd Street North and Prairie Avenue. Through investigation officers learned the assault had stemmed from a road rage incident. An adult male was arrested shortly thereafter and charged with assault and impaired driving.

The weekend proved very busy for officers who responded to numerous calls ranging from domestic violence, reports of suspicious persons, arrests for persons drunk in public, allegations of child abduction, family relations, keeping the peace and assistance under the Mental Health Act to hospital staff.

Anyone with information regarding one of these matters, or any other matter of a criminal nature, is encouraged to contact the Weyburn Police Service at (306) 848-3250, the local RCMP Detachment at 310-RCMP (7267), or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
