A Fillmore area man, Cody James Nagy, 19, will be having a pretrial on his charges, stemming from the death of his grandfather, Randall Dayman, almost a year ago.

The Fillmore RCMP charged Nagy with first degree murder and indignity to human remains, after they were called to a farm in the RM of Golden West on March 31 with a silent 911 call.

The RCMP traced the call to a farm in the RM of Golden West, and at the scene found Nagy wandering around in the farmyard. The body of Dayman was found a short distance from the residence.

The RCMP had assistance from the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit South and the Saskatchewan RCMP Forensic Identification Section.

Nagy first appeared by phone in Estevan Provincial Court on April 2, 2020, and in December 2020, his matter was committed to trial in Court of Queen’s Bench.

The pretrial for the matter will be heard in Estevan Queen’s Bench court on Tuesday, March 16.
