Fillmore man, 18, charged with murdering grandfather

An 18-year-old Fillmore area man is facing a charge of first-degree murder after the RCMP attended an area farm on Tuesday afternoon. Fillmore RCMP received a silent 911 call on March 31, late in the afternoon.

An 18-year-old Fillmore area man is facing a charge of first-degree murder after the RCMP attended an area farm on Tuesday afternoon.

Fillmore RCMP received a silent 911 call on March 31, late in the afternoon. Fillmore RCMP police officers traced the origin of the call and went to a rural residence near Fillmore in the RM of Golden West.

At the residence, police officers located an 18-year-old male wandering around the farmyard. Investigating further, police officers located the body of a 69-year-old male a short distance from the residence.

The 18-year-old male was arrested at the scene. He is the grandson of the deceased and had been residing at the rural residence with the deceased. 

The accused, Cody James Nagy, has been charged with first-degree murder and indignity to human remains. His next court appearance will be on Thursday, April 16.

The victim has been identified as Randall Dayman. Both Nagy and Dayman are listed as residents of the RM of Golden West.

The Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit South and Saskatchewan RCMP Forensic Identification Section are assisting with the investigation.

Nagy appeared in Estevan Provincial Court by phone on April 2.
