Police investigates reports of fraud, theft

The Weyburn Police Service received a report of an online fraud on Saturday, after the victim received a Facebook post that asked for $500 in iTune cards and in return would receive $50,000. The victim did send a small amount of money before realizing that it probably was a fraud.

• City police received a report of an identity theft on Jan. 8, after the victim received an email asking if he had purchased an item, if not to follow the link for reimbursement. The victim supplied personal information before thinking it may be a scam. No monies were lost and the matter remains under investigation.

• The Weyburn Police Service is investigating a report of a theft and forgery, after the victim reported to police on Jan. 8 they had personal cheques stolen and they had been forged with the victim’s signature and cashed. The investigation has identified a person of interest and the investigation is ongoing.

• The Weyburn Police Service were called to assist EMS in dealing with a possible overdose on Jan. 7. Police attended and during the course of the intervention arrested a 37-year-old male under the Mental Health Act. The male was taken to hospital for treatment. No criminal charges were laid.

• Weyburn police received a complaint of a two-vehicle accident that occurred on Railway Avenue on Jan. 7. One vehicle was slowing to turn and the following vehicle was unable to stop in time and hit the first vehicle causing significant damage, though both vehicles were drivable. No injuries were reported and the incident remains under investigation.

• City police received a call from an off-duty member on Jan. 8 advising they had spotted an individual who was wanted on outstanding warrants. On-duty officers attended to a local restaurant and arrested a 59-year-old male on outstanding warrants. The male was remanded and attended court in Regina on Jan. 10.

• Weyburn police received a report of a hit-and-run accident, which occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, after a parked vehicle in the Canadian Tire parking lot was struck by another vehicle. Damage to vehicle was minor. Police are continuing to investigate the accident.

• City police investigated a domestic situation after both parties attended to the police office on Saturday. The situation was mediated without criminal charges being laid.
