Weyburn city police received a report of the theft of a bicycle on Saturday. The bicycle was last seen in the area of the Old City Hall building downtown. The bike is described as a dark green 24-inch Hooligan mountain bike. Anyone having information about this theft is asked to contact the Weyburn Police Service, or to call Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Weyburn police received a complaint that there were people on the roof of a downtown business on Saturday. Upon investigating, two male youth were identified as being responsible. One male youth was arrested for a breach of release conditions and was released for an upcoming court date.
As the result of a traffic stop on April 8, a male driver was suspected as driving under the influence of alcohol. A roadside breath demand was made but the driver refused to provide a sample of breath.
As a result, the driver was arrested without incident and is now facing a criminal charge of failing or refusing to provide a breath sample. This carries the same penalty as someone who has been convicted of driving over .08 or driving while impaired. The driver’s licence was suspended and the vehicle impounded.
Weyburn police received a call to conduct a wellbeing check on an individual on April 9. As a result of the check, the person was taken to the hospital for treatment and assessment.
City police received a second request to conduct a wellbeing check on an individual on April 9, unrelated to the previous incident. The person was found to be at home and was well.
Weyburn police assisted a parent in arranging for a Youth Detoxification Warrant to be dealt with by the Regina Police Service on Wednesday.
City police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Wednesday. The driver was believed to be driving under the influence of either alcohol or a drug. After ruling out potential impairment by alcohol, a Standard Field Sobriety Test was conducted which the driver failed.
As a result of the fail the driver was arrested without incident and taken to the Weyburn Police Service where further tests were conducted by a Drug Recognition Evaluation Expert. This evaluation confirmed that the driver was impaired by a drug and was charged accordingly. The driver’s licence was suspended and the vehicle impounded.
Weyburn police received a report of an individual being threatened by another male on Thursday. As a result of the investigation, an adult male was arrested without incident and charged with uttering threats. As alcohol was a contributing factor, he was held in cells until sober. He will be making a court appearance on the charge at a later date.
As a result of a traffic stop on Friday, the police officer believed that the driver was driving under the influence of a drug. As the investigation into this went on, two female youth were identified as being in possession of cannabis. A Standard Field Sobriety test was conducted on the male youth driver resulting in a 60-day licence suspension. Tickets under the Cannabis Control Act were issued to the two female youth.
