Weyburn police arrest driver for trafficking cocaine

Weyburn police received a complaint of a female slumped over the steering wheel of her vehicle on March 3. Police attended and found the female to be impaired by a drug. Police also observed a large amount of drugs (cocaine) in plain view.

Weyburn police received a complaint of a female slumped over the steering wheel of her vehicle on March 3. Police attended and found the female to be impaired by a drug. Police also observed a large amount of drugs (cocaine) in plain view. After an investigation, the accused failed the Drug Recognition Examination (DRE) and was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, morphine and possessing the proceeds of crime. The accused was later released by a Justice of the Peace and placed on numerous conditions.

City police received a complaint from a local bank of a cashed forged cheque on Friday. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

Weyburn police attended to an accident where a male driver ran into a power pole and knocking it over on Thursday. There were no injuries, but the vehicle was towed and driver was charged with driving with undue care and attention.

Police performed a traffic stop for an unregistered vehicle on March 2. During the stop, police suspected the driver was impaired by drug. A DRE was done and the driver was found to be impaired. The accused was charged accordingly and the vehicle was impounded.

Police assisted Social Services with an investigation into child abuse on March 2. After the investigation was complete, an adult male was charged with assault on a minor. The accused was released on conditions to have no contact with the victim.

City police attended two separate incidents to keep the peace while property was exchanged on March 2. There were no issues in either incident. When available, police can keep the peace while property is exchanged between parties. Police want to remind the public to have arrangements made with the other party before calling police to assist.

Weyburn police were called by EMS to assist at a residence with a suicidal male on March 3. Police attended and found the subject had harmed himself and he was taken to hospital without incident.

Police received a complaint of an adult male threatening to kill another adult male on March 3. An investigation was done and the suspect was charged with two counts of uttering threats. He was released with conditions to have no contact with the victim.

Police were called by a local support agency for assistance on Thursday. Upon arrival, an adult male was found in distress. Police escorted the male to the hospital, where he was admitted.

During a traffic stop on Friday, police found the passenger had warrants out of Weyburn and Regina. The passenger was arrested and remanded for court in Estevan.

Police came upon a running vehicle in a parking lot with a male passed out behind the wheel during a routine patrol on Saturday. Investigation found the driver was impaired by alcohol. He was released to appear in court at a later date.
