Weyburn police charge driver for drug trafficking

Weyburn police conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Sunday. As a result of the stop, a small amount of cocaine and some Canadian currency were seized. The accused is now facing charges for possession of the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.

While on patrol the police came across a vehicle and bicycle collision on April 27. The bike rider received only minor scratches. The police wish to remind all users of the road to be extra cautious especially now that the weather is conducive to numerous riders getting out on their bikes. Police also urge parents to discuss with their children the importance of also looking out for vehicles as they are much larger and more difficult to stop quickly.

Weyburn police received a call to conduct a well-being check on an individual on April 27. The person agreed to attend the hospital for further assistance.

City police assisted Weyburn EMS at a suspected overdose on April 27 where EMS had to administer Naloxone.

Police received a report of a theft of an iPad on April 28. The matter is still under investigation.

Weyburn police received a call regarding a vehicle that had collided with a pole on a business parking lot on April 28. As a result of the investigation, the driver was believed to be impaired by drug. The driver was arrested and processed at the Weyburn police station by a Drug Evaluation Expert. The driver was also charged with possession of methamphetamine.

City police received a call regarding an assault with a weapon on April 28. Upon investigation an adult male was charged with assault with a weapon and will be making a future court appearance.

Weyburn police received a call regarding damage to a vehicle parked in the 400 block of Victoria Avenue on Wednesday. It appears that something struck the hood area of the vehicle, denting it. There is no indication that this was a criminal act, yet it is difficult to see how the damage may have resulted from road debris. City police were involved in a minor momentary pursuit of a vehicle that fled when the police activated the emergency lights to attempt to pull over the vehicle on Wednesday. The police believe they know who they are dealing with and the investigation is continuing at this point. The pursuit was terminated by the police officer after the speeds the vehicle was travelling on a gravel road were deemed to be excessive and dangerous.

Weyburn police conducted a compliance check for curfew conditions on a youth on Wednesday. The youth was not at home and could not be located at other known residences. The youth has been charged with breach of conditions.

Police received a report of a pending domestic disturbance between two people on Wednesday, and that a weapon was involved. Upon attending the residence, the male was arrested without incident and is facing numerous charges for breaching earlier court orders. Both the male and female were charged with possession of a firearm without a firearm licence.

Weyburn police are investigating the slashing of a vehicle tire which occurred in the 200 block of 10th Street NE on Friday. This is not the first such occurrence in a short radius from similar incidents. City police received a report of a bicycle having been stolen from the Bison Manor area on Saturday. Stolen was an older 26-inch men’s mountain bike, Rialto brand, red front forks with a basket, with a red-and-white frame.
