Weyburn police do 10 searches, lay trafficking charges

Three people were arrested in Weyburn and face a variety of charges including drug trafficking, drug possession and possessing the proceeds of a crime, following a large drug operation conducted by the Weyburn Police Service with other police agencies.

The Weyburn Police Service, assisted by the RCMP from Weyburn, Carlyle and Milestone and the RCMP Police Service Dog, the Estevan Police Service and Estevan PS Police Service Dog, the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team, and the Combined Forces Special Investigative Unit – South conducted early morning searches on a residence in Weyburn and two residences in Yellow Grass on Thursday.

These searches resulted in further searches in Weyburn, Yellow Grass and Francis, and concluded on Saturday.

In total 10 searches were conducted, resulting in seizures of approximately $48,000 in cash, $50,000 (street value) in cocaine, and unknown drugs which will be sent for analysis. A total of three people have been arrested and are facing a variety of charges including trafficking in cocaine, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime. One male is also facing an additional charge of resisting arrest.

• The Weyburn police received a call regarding a domestic matter on Nov. 27. Upon locating one of the people involved in the incident, they found the person to be bleeding. A ride was provided to the Weyburn General Hospital where the person became agitated and angry at the police. As a result, the person punched a Weyburn Police Service member. The person was arrested at that point with the use of physical force and was handcuffed.

Once his medical examination was complete he was returned to the Weyburn Police Service where he was lodged in cells. He is facing one charge of assaulting a peace officer. The police officer sustained only minor injuries.

• Police received a report of a minor domestic assault on Nov. 27. Upon investigation the matter was mediated.

• Weyburn police responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Souris Avenue at Second Street on Friday. There were no injuries and both vehicles were drivable. One driver will have his file submitted to SGI for review.

• City police received a report of a licence plate stolen from a vehicle while it was parked at a local motel on Saturday. The stolen Saskatchewan plate was 853 KVV. Anyone having information about this occurrence, or who may see this plate, is asked to contact the Weyburn Police Service at 303-848-3250 or to call Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

• Weyburn police were contacted to conduct a wellness check on an individual on Saturday. The person was located and found to be fine.

• In addition, this past week the Weyburn police received the following reports of scams/frauds: CRA – one; a letter from a U.S. bank – one; email scam from Apple – one; credit card rate scam – two.
