Weyburn police respond to call of group playing sports

City police received a call regarding a number of people playing basketball at a school on Sunday. The group was located and were educated on the two-metre social distancing requirement and were dispersed. Public Health was advised of the incident.

The Weyburn PS received an emergency medical call regarding a possible overdose. Upon arrival police had to administer Narcan in an attempt to save the victim. That, along with intervention by Weyburn EMS, was successful in saving the person’s life.  Weyburn police received a report regarding mischief to a downtown business as well as a theft of property from that business on Thursday. Two signs were taken and a third window sign was damaged. Anyone seeing anything out of the ordinary in the 10 block of Third Street NE is asked to contact the Weyburn Police Service, or to call Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Police conducted a traffic stop on Monday and as a result discovered that a passenger in the vehicle was violating a legal curfew condition. The person was arrested without incident, charged for breach of release, and was released for court later in June.

Weyburn police received a report on April 13 of threatening messages being sent via electronic media. Police wish to remind people that there are various offences that can be applied to social media, text, email. The general rule is that “If you can’t do something in person without it being an offence, you cannot do it via electronic media.” Whether in person or electronically, most offences are the same and can carry significant penalties, including criminal convictions and a criminal record.

City police, while on patrol on April 13, observed a person to be acting oddly, and when the person saw the patrol car he bolted and ran into an area motel. The officer followed to determine if the person was entitled to be in the motel and discovered that the person was in breach of a curfew. The person was arrested without incident, charged with breach of release, and given a court date in June to appear on the matter.

City police received a report of a computer scam on April 14. This scam insinuates that the person’s computer has been hacked and that the scammer has access to sexual images of the victim found on the computer. If the victim does not pay the scammer will release the images to everyone in the contact list. In this particular case the victim recognized this as a scam and did not suffer any loss.

Weyburn police received a call from a financial institution on Wednesday regarding a customer who refused to leave. The investigation revealed that while the customer was in a heated discussion with an employee, the accused assaulted the employee. The accused was taken into custody without further incident, and is being treated in a medical facility. The accused is facing a charge of assault and will be making a court appearance in the future.

City police received a scam complaint on Thursday regarding information being sought by the Canada Revenue Agency. The victim suffered a loss of personal identification.

Police received a complaint about a number of teens running on and off private property on Thursday. The group was located and it was determined that they were playing hide-and-seek in their respective yards.

Weyburn police received a report of a missing teen on Monday. The person was quickly located at a friend’s residence.
