Weyburn police seek public’s help to find driver

Weyburn police conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Aug. 19. After the vehicle stopped and as the member approached, it took off at a high rate of speed. The officer did not pursue the vehicle.

The vehicle is described as a black 2016 GMC Sierra 2500-3500 extended cab with tinted windows, bearing Alberta plate BZS2986. The vehicle was driven by a lone male and was last seen travelling eastbound on Fifth Avenue NE.

Weyburn police conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle for a traffic violation on Sunday. During the interaction the driver was found to be in possession of cocaine, codeine and methamphetamine. The person was charged for being in possession of the drugs and released for a future court appearance.

Weyburn police received a complaint that at about 5:30 a.m. on Aug. 20, while fueling at a local gas station, a driver’s vehicle was entered and a number of items were taken from the truck. City police received a complaint that a person’s home computer had been hacked into and money withdrawn from the person’s bank account on Aug. 20. The matter is still under investigation.

The city police were contacted regarding a potential domestic disturbance on Aug. 19. When police arrived they were able to defuse the matter without need for further intervention.

Weyburn police received a complaint regarding a possible domestic assault with a weapon on Aug. 19. During the investigation the suspect in the occurrence was located and had weapons in possession. The person was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to the hospital for assessment.

Police received a request to attend a residence to keep the peace while one of the residents moved out on Aug. 20. While police were present, one of the occupants of the home, who was intoxicated, failed to comply with police direction and left the private property onto the street. At this point the person was observed to be intoxicated, and this person was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place. The person was held in cells until sober and no charges were laid.

The Weyburn Police CTSS Unit conducted a traffic stop of an individual on Wednesday. As a result of the stop, the driver was believed to be driving under the influence of alcohol and subsequently failed a roadside breath test.

The driver was arrested without incident and returned to the Weyburn Police Service for further breath tests where the results were nearly twice the legal limit. The driver was charged with driving while over .08 and the driver’s licence was suspended indefinitely pending court. The vehicle was also impounded.

Weyburn police received a call regarding a disturbance at a neighbouring residence on Wednesday. Upon attending the police found a person in medical distress threatening self-harm. The person was apprehended pursuant to the Mental Health Act and transported to the hospital for assessment.

The Weyburn PS CTSS Unit, accompanied by the Weyburn Community Safety Officer, conducted a traffic stop on Thursday. As a result of the stop, the driver was found to be wanted on a warrant held by the RCMP. When arrested the driver was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and approximately 0.2 grams of Fentanyl. The person was charged for the drug offence and released before a Justice of the Peace for an upcoming court date.

Weyburn police received a call regarding someone suspected to be in medical distress on Thursday. The person was located and transported to the hospital for assistance.

Police received a call regarding the well-being of a person believed to be in the process of inflicting self-harm on Thursday. Police attended and convinced the person to voluntarily go to the hospital for assessment.

Weyburn police received a call regarding a youth who may have overdosed on Friday. The youth was located and was transported by EMS to the hospital for treatment.

City police conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Friday. As a result of the stop, the driver was believed to be driving while under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Both a roadside breath test and a Standard Field Sobriety Test was conducted. The results of both tests suggested that a Drug Evaluation Expert test be conducted.

The driver was arrested without warrant and take to the Weyburn police station where the drug evaluation was conducted. The drug evaluation was positive but the circumstances were insufficient to support a criminal charge for driving while impaired. A 60-day licence suspension was issued pursuant to the zero-tolerance legislation.

Weyburn police received a complaint of a person sleeping or passed out on a bench near a business on Saturday. Upon attending it was determined that the person was highly intoxicated and was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and held in cells until sober.

City police received a call regarding a possible suicidal person on Saturday. Before police arrived, EMS was attending to the person who was transported to the hospital for assessment.

Weyburn police received a call regarding a person apparently trying to gain entry into an apartment building on Sunday. Upon arrival the person was located and it was learned this related to an ongoing domestic situation. The person was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and held in cells until sober.
