Work crews removed two of the four underground fuel tanks used for the gas bar at the Prairie Sky Co-op’s food store, which was closed on Sept. 20. Once the fuel tanks and convenience store are removed, the area will be paved over and used for additional parking stalls for the food store.

The gas bar required major repairs to continue to operate safely and meet Co-op members’ expectations into the future. The cost of these repairs, along with the sales volume of this site, led to the decision to close this location, which was announced in mid-August. Efforts were made to retain the gas bar employees and they were moved to other Co-op locations where possible.

The Co-op also has pump locations in Beaubier, Lang and Milestone that can use a customer’s Prairie Sky Co-op membership number to earn equity and cash back. For fuel purchases made in 2018, members received a five-per-cent allocation.

“Prairie Sky Co-op remains committed to investing in the community and has a long-term plan to invest in our facilities and equipment to best serve our membership,” said Kevin Arthur, General Manager of Prairie Sky Co-op.
