Major construction projects are ramping up in the City of Weyburn for the month of August.

This year’s construction program provides important improvements to roadways and infrastructure. Traffic may be restricted in some areas while City crews and contractors complete the work.

We are continuing to replace water mains and improve accessibility along some of Weyburn’s busiest roads,” said public works superintendent Todd Bedore. “These projects will provide safer routes for our residents and vital updates to our infrastructure.”

New sidewalks, including pedestrian ramps, are being installed by North Star Concrete on Government Road, from Prairie Avenue to Coteau Avenue. This project is to be completed by the end of August.

More pedestrian ramps will also be installed this summer in various locations around the city.

Trip hazards along sidewalks are being removed in the northwest area of the city. This project began in 2019, with Armadillo Walkway Repairs Inc. completing the first phase of high priority areas last summer.

Major water main replacement work has begun at the intersection of Third Street S and Highway 39 (as shown in the photo above). Traffic on Third Street S will be restricted to local traffic, and detours along the highway will be in place until construction is complete.

The Tatagwa Trails system will also see some improvements this summer, with 1.25 km of the pavement being recapped.

Another major project will be the rehabilitation of the Weyburn Airport runway by ASL Paving Ltd. This project is partially funded by Government of Saskatchewan through the Community Airport Partnership (CAP) program.

Regular maintenance and incident response around the city continues, such as asphalt patching, concrete repairs and sewer service renewal.
