As the SHA resumes services across the province, health leaders have been working to ensure that there could be a safe re-opening with stable and predictable services while considering COVID cases in areas throughout the province.
As part of the health system COVID-19 readiness plan, the SHA had temporarily converted 12 community hospitals, which included Radville, to Alternate Level of Care (ALC) sites to help build capacity for any potential surge in COVID-19 cases and to protect against outbreaks in the local facility.
As part of this SHA service resumption work, adequate human resources, skill enhancement and training, separation of staff and the physical separation of space, and the status of COVID are all being factored in when evaluating the criteria to re-open these emergency rooms. In Radville, one of the challenges with service resumption had been related to recruitment challenges.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority is pleased to announce it has secured interim physician coverage for the last week of July and the month of August that will enable them to re-open emergency services in the Radville Marian Health Centre effective Monday, July 27.
Physician recruitment remains a priority for Radville and efforts are ongoing. The SHA is also looking at other options for continuing to provide emergency services in the community, which may include utilizing virtual care in the emergency room setting. Further details will be communicated once available.
