A case of COVID-19 has been diagnosed in an individual at St. Michael School, and contact tracing has been completed for the classes in Grades 7-9. Grades Pre-K to 6 attended school as normal.
In an update to parents on Friday, the Holy Family School Division advised, "At this time only the original positive case has been detected and there is no evidence of transmission associated with the school."
All Grade 7-9 classes and a bus run were canceled on Jan 20th to ensure adequate time for contact tracing among staff and cleaning and disinfecting of all surfaces.
Grade 7-9 classes continued on-line for Jan 21 and 22 to allow time for contact tracing among students and cleaning to be completed.
Contact tracing within the school is complete. Anyone deemed a close contact has been contacted by Public health and informed that they must self isolate until 14 days after last contact.
"All students and staff who have been deemed not a close contact will return to school and continue normal instruction on Monday, Jan. 25. The affected grade will receive online instruction during the rest of their quarantine period. Any other students who are required to self isolate will be provided homework as available," said the update on Friday.
Risk of exposure for anyone not considered a close contact is low.
“We remind everyone entering schools to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19. Refer to the Daily Self-Assessment Checklist. Please complete this before attending school each day,” stated the letter to parents.
