The City of Weyburn has begun their search for a new fire chief after receiving the current chief's resignation March 3.

"Steve Debienne tendered his letter of resignation. The letter was accepted and we wish Steve best wishes in his future endeavors. The City of Weyburn will begin an immediate search for a new Fire Chief," said Smith.

Weyburn City Manager Bob Smith said Steve Debienne began his career with the Weyburn Fire Department in 2008 as the Deputy Fire Chief and then assuming the role of the chief in December of 2009.

The City of Weyburn will be assisting with the administrative side of the fire department to ensure emergency services don't miss a beat, said Smith.

In the interim, Mason Sawatzky, Deputy Fire Chief will assume duties until a new fire chief is selected.
