As announced earlier on Tuesday, there has been a delay in the shipment of Pfizer vaccines expected to arrive this week. As a result, some immunization clinics scheduled this week will be offering the Moderna vaccine instead.

Residents with booked appointments affected by the delay will receive a notification via text or email, or if they did not sign up for notifications they will be contacted directly. Appointment times and locations will remain the same.

As advised by National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI), the Pfizer and Moderna (mRNA) vaccines can be safely substituted for each other.

Saskatchewan's clinical experts advise residents affected by this delay to accept Moderna for their second dose, as it is safe and effective in preventing the spread of COVID-19.

Changing Vaccine Brands Between First & Second Doses

In response to updated statements by the National Advisory Committee on Immunization, Saskatchewan's clinical experts have recommended that individuals in Saskatchewan who received AstraZeneca as their first dose be offered the choice of receiving AstraZeneca or an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer/Moderna) as their second dose.
