The City of Weyburn has received funding for the new fleet storage building that is currently being constructed. This funding is provided through the Government of Saskatchewan Municipal Economic Enhancement Program grant totaling $1,562,328.

Weyburn-Big Muddy MLA Dustin Duncan was on site at the public works and parks yard to announce this funding on Friday, along with members of the City of Weyburn’s administration and council.

The new building will replace the current facility, the historic roundhouse which is over 100 years old. The building is failing and is becoming a liability issue, with parts of the building condemned and unable to be used.

The new fleet storage building will double the size to 33,578 square feet, with room to house 44 pieces of city-owned equipment. It is a pre-engineered prefabricated steel building that will be quickly installed on the foundation, which is shown in here in the photo.

It will include wash bays, and is designed for a possible expansion to accommodate up to 60 pieces of equipment on this site.

The winning contractor for this project was Dura Construction, which tendered a bid of $3.61 million, the lowest of five bids received on this project.

The total budget for the building is $4.747 million, which includes professional fees and a contingency fund, and minus the MEEP grant announced by MLA Duncan, the city will use an internal loan for the balance, which is $3.185 million.

The fleet storage building is on track to be completed March 2021.
