A new theme was chosen for the 2020 Communithon. The theme, submitted by Jessica Jack and Marna McManus of Magic 103.5, is: “THIS is the year… this is the year you perform. This is the year you volunteer. This is the year you give. THIS IS YOUR YEAR!"

The Communithon committee is still planning to host the 2020 Communithon on Friday, October 23.

The committee has remained respectful of social distancing and COVID-19 restrictions during the past few months. Recently, there was an in-person meeting with only committee leads on May 19 and had a Zoom meeting with the 11 community agencies on May 21.

The key focus of the Communithon committee continues to be to support the community agencies, and ensure they receive important information regarding funding opportunities that can support the programs and services that they provide in Weyburn and area.

The 11 community agencies for 2020 are: Big Brothers Big Sisters Weyburn, Canadian Mental Health Association, Canadian Red Cross, Community Low Income Centre, CNIB Foundation, Envision Counselling and Support Centre, Inclusion Weyburn, Spinal Cord Injury Saskatchewan, Weyburn Care-a-Van, Weyburn Special Care Home Auxiliary, and Weyburn Youth Centre.

The community agencies do so much for the community of Weyburn, and the committee aims to highlight the unique situation they’ve had to face during COVID-19 restrictions. Along with broadcast partner Access 7 Weyburn, they are working on videos that will feature the work and programs that the community agencies are providing to the community.

The 2020 Communithon will be held at the Weyburn Royal Canadian Legion on Friday, October 23. The committee is discussing alternative ideas and opportunities, being mindful of COVID-19 and any restrictions and guidelines in place at that time.

Community involvement would be appreciated and other volunteers are invited to join the committee.
