Weyburn city council was introduced to the new members of the Youth Council, who had their first meeting on Oct. 17.

The group includes youth mayor Megan Ebel, secretary Maya Knipfel, and councillors Jaylynn Haupstein, Gregg Wiens and Fatima Mir, and they were all present at the meeting, gathering for a photo with Mayor Marcel Roy at far left, and their council advisor, Coun. Jeff Richards.

“The youth council acts as an advisor to council, and they provide a lot of feedback on issues that are important,” said Coun. Richards.

He noted while the youth council doesn’t vote at city council, they do provide their input on any issues that are important to city youth.

Mayor Roy noted that Weyburn began the youth council two years ago, and is the second or third city in the province to have one in place.
