Three elementary schools in Weyburn will close a rich history of serving the community at the end of June, as their staff and students will all move to the new Legacy Park Elementary School in September.

The Southeast Cornerstone Public School Division identified Haig, Souris and Queen Elizabeth School as the schools to be relocated.

Queen Elizabeth School will celebrate their final year on Monday, June 21 with dignitaries speak to the school community using a TEAMS link. A video compilation of memories will also be presented.

Haig School will have a Farewell and Celebration Day on Thursday, June 24. They will be starting the day with a school wide assembly on TEAMS, which will be a power point and include interesting information about the history of Haig, videos from past principals and lots of Haig pictures.

For the rest of the morning, they will have celebration stations that students will work through in their cohorts (while following the health COVID-19 protocols). Haig School will end the day by singing the Haig school song outside (as a whole school socially distancing) for the last time, followed by Haig bus drivers driving school buses around the school for a farewell drive.

Souris School will have a farewell assembly over TEAMS with staff, students and members of their School Community Council as part of their Wellness Day celebration on Wednesday, June 23.

The entire school will head out to the school grounds during the afternoon, by cohort so social distancing can be observed. Each student will have a giant bubble wand to wave and fill the air with bubbles for a Souris Send Off.

The Souris School Community Council is coordinating a drive-by parade for families around the school grounds. Those attending can decorated their vehicles or make signs if they would like. Anyone participating in the drive-by parade is reminded to remain in their vehicles to follow COVID protocols.

The memories and feelings of Souris School will be carried with staff and students forever. It was recently learned the Souris slogan at one point was “Souris School: A River of Learning”. The building or grounds may change, but the pride and sense of community will remain.
