Rotary World Polio Day

Members of the Weyburn Rotary Club gathered as they were on hand to mark World Polio Day on Wednesday at Pharmasave, where they had information available about Rotary International’s campaign to eradicate polio. They provided coupons for Starbucks if people asked Rotarians a question about polio. The disease is getting very close to being gone with only 22 cases in 2017 worldwide. World Polio Day is marked on Oct. 24 as it is the birthday of Jonas Salk, who led the team which developed the polio vaccine. Polio is incurable, but can be prevented through use of the vaccine.
