Jennifer Lorinczy, centre, community ministries coordinator for the Salvation Army in Weyburn, holds a cheque for $1,000 from SaskEnergy for the Lunch for Kids program, flanked by Marleen Holtz at left and Sherri Rowat, both from SaskEnergy.

The Weyburn office of SaskEnergy is also donating colouring books (displayed by the ladies) and crayons to be given out with the lunches.

The Salvation Army provides 100 bagged lunches every Tuesday and Thursday at the Souris School parking lot, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The program will run from now until the end of June, as the Salvation Army seeks to provide a replacement for the nutrition programs lost when schools closed on March 20 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The program initially began in the parking lot of the Weyburn Free Methodist Church, but moved to the Souris School parking lot for better access for families on the South Hill, said Lorinczy.

Since they began, they have now run out of their 100 bagged lunches twice, including on Thursday when they ran out right at the end of their time at the parking lot.
