Hailey Neiszner, a hairstylist student at the Weyburn campus of Southeast College (shown at right, with instructor Kate Mahoney), won bronze in the Virtual Saskatchewan Skills Canada competition recently.

The registration happens online. She was entered at the Post Secondary level in the Hairstyling program. Sask Skills Canada sent her two mannequins (male and female) to work on for the day of the competition, and she had to compete in a bridal style competition and then a men’s haircut competition in that category.

The event was virtual. She was given the final instructions the morning of the competition via Zoom and then had to complete the style or haircut within a certain amount of time.

An adjudicator was on campus to watch her compete so she wasn’t breaking any of the rules set out.

Once the competition was done she had to take photos of each mannequin and then send them in for marking. The online event to announce the winners happened on May 7th.

Southeast College is still accepting students for the Hairstylist program starting September 12, 2021. Applications are accepted online at southeastcollege.org
