Unifor strike

Members of Unifor at Crown corporations were out on the picket line first thing on Friday morning in Weyburn, joining some 4,500 members across the province.

The strike will affect seven Crowns, including SaskTel, SaskPower, SaskEnergy, SaskWater, the Water Security Agency, and SaskTel subsidiaries SecurTek and Direct West.

One of the impacts of the strike is that the SaskTel store, located in Weyburn on Fourth Street and Coteau Avenue, will be closed.

The union wants the same increase that MLAs are getting, 2.3 per cent, while the government’s current offer is five per cent over five years, with the first increase in the third year.

There was no indication when negotiation talks might resume between the two sides.
