The Weyburn Comp School will move to a Level 3 classification, due to a potential COVID-19 exposure that had occured. Lynn Little, Director of Education for South East Cornerstone Public School Division had signed a news release that was sent out to parents, guardians and caregivers of the Weyburn Comp, and was published on the WCS Social Media Pages.

The letter reads:

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to all parents, guardians, students, and staff as we have worked through COVID-19 positive diagnoses for individuals within the school.

Due to the current situation, we have made the decision to move Weyburn Comprehensive School to Level 3 effective Monday, November 16th through to and inclusive of December 18th. Essentially a Level 3 is an alternate day attendance for students which reduces the student body in the building to 50%. With the reduction in attendance, we can support 2 metre physical distancing increasing the level of safety. We will also be moving to mandatory mask wearing in classrooms for Grade 7 and 8. With these two layers of additional prevention, we hope to be able to continue to safely offer face to face instruction.

Instruction, support, and assessment will be provided on the in-class, face to face day for students. Assigned independent work and practice will be provided and expected to be completed on non-face to face days. It is important to ensure that your student is engaged in and completing the work assigned for out-of-class days.

There will not be classes tomorrow, Friday, November 13th, as staff will use the day for a transition day to prepare for Level 3. Your school administration and or staff will be in touch to advise of your student’s schedule. Please note that we will also engage in a deep cleaning of the school prior to the students’ return on Monday.

Students in Classroom 8-5 will continue with Level 4, remote learning, until November 20th as communicated. On their return, they will also be engaged in Level 3.
