Weyburn businesses promote payroll deduction to support Communithon

The success of the Weyburn Communithon over the years would not be possible without the support of the Weyburn and area business community. This year, the Weyburn Communithon Committee is encouraging area businesses to get involved in any way possible, whether through business challenges, donations, online auctions, volunteering and/or payroll deductions.

Since 1993, the SaskEnergy Weyburn office has taken part in a payroll deduction program in which employees opt-in to have a small contribution set aside each month to be donated to Communithon. On top of that, SaskEnergy provides a corporate contribution as well. To date, this initiative has raised almost $52,000 for the Communithon and the community’s local organizations.

“SaskEnergy recognizes the importance of giving back to the community — especially this past year,” said Michell Giroux, Customer Administration Supervisor for SaskEnergy in Weyburn. “Through payroll deductions and giving $5 or $10 a month, our team of employees can spread their pledges out over the course of the year in smaller amounts. This makes it easy to help give more to support our local Communithon and its member agencies.”

Payroll deduction is a workplace giving program in which contributions are deducted directly from the paychecks of participating employees as an easy and effective way to encourage charitable support. Your organization may also consider contributing a percentage of employee donations, matching the donations or enabling employees to volunteer during work time.

The 2021 Communithon will be held at the Weyburn Royal Canadian Legion on Friday, October 29, 2021. Save the date and help us meet our goal of raising $82,021!

The 11 Communithon community agencies for 2021 are: Big Brothers Big Sisters Weyburn, Canadian Mental Health Association, Canadian Red Cross, Community Low Income Centre, CNIB Foundation, Envision Counselling and Support Centre, Inclusion Weyburn, Spinal Cord Injury Saskatchewan, Weyburn Care-a-Van, Weyburn Special Care Home Auxiliary, and Weyburn Youth Centre.

The Communithon Committee welcomes community involvement and volunteers to join them. Follow our Facebook page, email weyburncommunithon@gmail.com or visit their website at www.communithon.com for more information on how you can help them plan for the 2021 Communithon!
