A local family will be part of a family team that will be taking part in a taping of Family Feud Canada in Toronto, after they took part in an audition in Regina.

Heidi and Ryan Fowler will join other members of Heidi’s family this weekend, Feb. 9 and 10, at the CBC Broadcasting Centre in Toronto. Explaining how the opportunity came about, Heidi said, “My mom, Loreen Husband, saw a commercial last summer looking for teams for the first Family Feud Canada season. She approached my brother Benji, my sister Maria, my husband Ryan, and me to submit an audition video. We created the video at our family reunion last July and were chosen to attend an audition in Regina last September.”

She said the auditions were really fun, starting with a dance-off to see which teams would play first.

“Each family that was there had a chance to play a round of the Family Feud game against another family. The producers of the show were really interested in our introductions and finding out about each family,” said Heidi.

The family received word on Jan. 23 that they were selected to be a part of the show.

“We head to Toronto this weekend, February 9 and 10, for the taping of the show. We're really excited to go and be a part of this. It will be a nice family time as we weren't planning to all see each other until later in the spring,” said Heidi.

She described her family as a true “Prairie family”, with members in each of the Prairie provinces.

“My mom, Loreen Husband is from Dauphin, Man., which is what it is going to say when we are on the show as we all grew up in Dauphin. My sister, Maria, lives in Winnipeg, Man. My brother Benji lives in Lethbridge, Alta,” said Heidi, noting only she and Ryan live in Weyburn. Her cousin Rachel, who was an alternate at the audition, will not going with them to Toronto.

The CBC game show is hosted by actor and stand-up comedian Gerry Dee, based on the international format of the long-running game show.

Family Feud Canada airs four nights a week on CBC, from Monday to Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

For the auditions, the show organizers took in applications from over 2,000 families from across Canada, and out of those applicants, 575 families were invited to the auditions, held in 15 cities across the country.

From that selection process, 72 families are chosen to compete on air. Families will compete for a $10,000 prize each night, and can stay for up to three episodes in a row if they win, for a chance at a total of $30,000.
