Weyburn Credit Union (WCU) is committed to building better, brighter and stronger communities. One of the ways WCU helps build a stronger community is through their Community Fund. Typically, the Credit Union Board of Directors allocate one per cent of the Credit Union’s profits to the WCU Community Fund each year. Community groups and organizations can then apply for funding for projects and initiatives that have a positive impact within our local communities.

In 2021, the Credit Union will be awarding over $38,000 more in Community Fund grants.

“When I sit at the Board table and make decisions on how our Credit Union uses it profits, I am representing all WCU members,” remarked Lynn Colquhoun, board chair. “So when we say we are building a strong and vibrant community, it’s not just the Credit Union, it’s every single member. Each member is a part of the ‘We’ – and there’s power in ‘We’. When you bank with us, you are a part of something bigger.”

Here are the key dates to note for the 2021 process:

• March 1: Applications Open

• April 12: Applications Close

• June 15:
All applicants will be informed of the outcome of their applications

• Late June/Early July: Public Announcement of Grant Recipients

Organizations and community groups can access more information as well as the application from the Weyburn Credit Union website: www.weyburncu.ca. To be eligible for funding, applications must be made on behalf of a Not-For-Profit organization for a project or initiative that is self-sustaining and will provide direct benefit to the communities served by WCU.

As a note of interest, Weyburn Credit Union (WCU) was nationally recognized with an Achievement in Marketing Excellence (AIME) Award by the Canadian Credit Union Association (CCUA) for their work in rebranding their Community Fund. Two years ago, WCU gave their Fund a visual refresh and streamlined the process. They branded the program with a consistent look, feel and messaging. WCU took a portion of their logo mark, affectionately dubbed “the spark”, and transformed it into a winning community.

The new brand is unmistakably Weyburn Credit Union, but identifiable standing on its own. They now use the same look, feel and messaging throughout announcements and updates regarding the Community Fund. The AIME Awards attract entries from credit unions of all sizes and locations across Canada. The AIME Awards recognize the best and brightest achievements in credit union marketing, communications and community relations through a variety of categories.
