The Weyburn General Hospital will focus on the treatment of COVID patients, according to the Saskatchewan Health Authority.

In a statement on Tuesday, the SHA said, “Should an admission to hospital be required, the health care workers at Weyburn General Hospital will be caring exclusively for COVID positive patients on inpatient wards. Non-COVID patient care needs will be met in hospitals in surrounding rural locations, namely Estevan, and arrangements will be made for patients at the time of admission.”

With this designation, COVID-19 positive patients from other nearby communities in the southeastern part of the province may be admitted to the Weyburn hospital.

In the meantime, Emergency Room services, along with the lab and X-ray services, at the Weyburn hospital are not impacted and continue to be available and accessible. If anyone feels unwell and thinks they might require urgent or emergent care, they can call 911 or go to the hospital emergency department.

Medical professionals are available to address health care needs. Non-urgent health-related questions can be directed to the provincial HealthLine by calling 8-1-1.

The status of COVID outbreak remains in place for the Weyburn Special Care Home, with three deaths now reported from the virus, according to the Saskatchewan Health Authority on Monday afternoon.

There have been 27 positive COVID cases among residents and staff members of the Weyburn Special Care Home, and there are currently nine active cases.

At the Weyburn General Hospital, there are currently 17 active cases of patients and staff who have tested positive. The outbreak remains in place at the Weyburn Hospital.

The health care facilities will remain on the “outbreak” list until the Saskatchewan Health Authority can determine the outbreak is over.

The outbreak at the Special Care Home was first declared on Dec. 27, and the hospital outbreak was declared on Dec. 29.
