Weyburn man, 34, faces charges in fatal collision

Charges have been laid against a 34-year-old Weyburn man after a fatal two-vehicle collision occurred on Sunday afternoon on Highway 39. Moose Jaw RCMP received a complaint around 2 p.m. Sunday of a motor vehicle collision on Highway 39 about 5.

Charges have been laid against a 34-year-old Weyburn man after a fatal two-vehicle collision occurred on Sunday afternoon on Highway 39.
Moose Jaw RCMP received a complaint around 2 p.m. Sunday of a motor vehicle collision on Highway 39 about 5.5 km south of the junction of Highway 1. Initial investigation revealed a northbound truck and southbound truck collided on the roadway.
The lone adult driver (a 62-year-old male) of the northbound truck was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The adult male driver, a 42-year-old male passenger and a 29-year-old female passenger in the southbound truck were transported to hospital and have since been released.
John Smolinski, 34, of Weyburn is charged with one count of impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death, one count of impaired operation of a motor vehicle over .08 causing death, one count impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, and one count of impaired operation of a motor vehicle over .08 causing bodily harm.
Smolinski made his first appearance on these charges in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Monday morning, and appeared again on Tuesday morning.
