Members of the Weyburn Opportunity Road Race stopped in at city council on Monday evening to donate proceeds from last year’s race, and to announce a name change for the annual event.

Those presenting the proceeds to Mayor Marcel Roy included event chair Glenn Rogers, Vicki Leas, Angie Dunn, Lisa Vick and Terra Jacobsen.

The road race will now be known as the Souris River Run, and the proceeds will continue to be donated to the Tatagwa Parkway system to help provide for improvements to the trails system around the city.

“We had another tremendous year, with great attendance,” said event chair Glenn Rogers, noting there were many out-of-town runners on hand for the event.

The 2019 race raised enough for a $5,000 donation to the Tatagwa Parkway, and Rogers noted the city already received $2,000 of that amount.

“Hopefully this continues and will stay a priority for the City,” said Rogers. “We do ask the City to continue to have this as a high priority. We’d like to see that move forward.”

The 2020 Souris River Run will be held on Father’s Day, on Sunday, June 21.
