Wind, cold air produces sundogs at Weyburn

A combination of Arctic cold, dry air and snow crystals being blown by strong winds produced the natural phenomenon of sundogs on Saturday.

A combination of Arctic cold, dry air and snow crystals being blown by strong winds produced the natural phenomenon of sundogs on Saturday.

These photos show the sundog and the Soo Line Museum’s smokestack, and a service rig up on the lot of Aaron’s Well Servicing just off Highway 39.

The sundogs were visible from early in the morning when the sun rose and were evident throughout the day as strong winds blew loose snow into the air, and produced high wind chill values.
