Police arrest two people for drug trafficking

The Weyburn Police Service Criminal Investigation Unit, Weyburn Police Service patrol units, RCMP Police service dog, and the National Weapons Support Team (NWEST) conducted an early morning search on a residence in Weyburn on Thursday.

A 23-year-old male and a 17-year-old female present in the residence were taken into custody without incident. Approximately 210 grams of cocaine with an estimated street value of $21,000 and in excess of $42,000 in cash was seized along with a vehicle.

The adult male has been charged with trafficking in cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking in cocaine, possession of proceeds of crime. Other charges are still under investigation. The female youth has been charged with possession of cocaine. Both accused were remanded in custody.

The Weyburn police received a report of the theft of a Traeger barbecue from the 200 block of 14th Street on Sunday. The matter is still under investigation.

City police are investigating a report of the theft of various property items from a location in the 800 block of Third Street SE on Sunday. Stolen are bow and arrows, a water cooler, a 20-litre gas can, and Stanley ratchet set. The matter is still under investigation.

City police received a report of a break, enter and theft that had occurred over the past few days. Stolen was a TV, PS3 device, printer and Nixon watch.

The Weyburn police responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence at about 1:30 a.m. on June 4. It was learned that it involved two estranged common-law spouses and child care issues. The matter was mediated.

City police responded to a complaint of graffiti being found on the grandstands at the fairgrounds on June 4. The matter is still under investigation.

Weyburn police received a report of a person found riding a stolen bicycle on June 4. The bicycle was recovered and the matter is still under investigation.

City police responded to a single vehicle collision with private property at about 9:25 p.m. on June 4. There were no injuries, but due to the final resting place of the vehicle, it had to be towed once a pole was removed. The matter is still under investigation.

The Weyburn police received a report of a stolen bicycle, a matte black “We-the-people” Arcade 20-inch BMX with neo-chrome spokes and headset, on June 5.

City police responded to a residence regarding a person who was intending self-harm on June 5. The matter was dealt with using the assistance of family.

Weyburn police received a report of a neighbour dispute regarding the removal of trees on June 5. Generally speaking, any tree overhanging a property line may be trimmed to the property line. It is always advisable, however, before first doing any pruning, to try and speak with the tree owner and resolve the issue and obtain a clear understanding of what is going to be done. If that cannot be accomplished it may be necessary to obtain an exact finding of where a particular property line runs and may even require a legal opinion of your rights as a neighbor and/or tree owner.

City police received a call regarding a male person who was bothering vehicles on June 5. Before the police arrived the male was observed to urinate in public. He was located by the police a short time later and taken into custody for breaching his court order. He was also issued a ticket for urinating in public.

The Weyburn police were called to a report of a fight in progress at a bar just after midnight on Wednesday. Three adult males were arrested for being intoxicated in public and held in police cells until sober.

Weyburn police conducted a traffic stop at about 2 a.m. on Thursday where they then suspected the driver to be impaired by drug (cocaine). A Drug Evaluation Expert (DRE) examination was conducted which resulted in the driver having his licence suspended for three days. 

Weyburn police received a call in the downtown area regarding what was believed to be an intoxicated male urinating on the street on Saturday. An 18-year-old male was located and was subsequently charged with a liquor violation and with urinating in public.

The Milestone RCMP detachment responded to a two-vehicle collision involving a south-bound semi-truck and a north-bound motorcycle on Highway 6 just south of the #306 junction on Sunday at 3:07 a.m.

The 60-year-old male driver of the motorcycle, from Emerald Park, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The 38-year-old driver and sole occupant of the semi-truck, from Estevan, was uninjured.

The highway was closed for some time to allow for clean-up of the scene. The investigation is ongoing at this time with assistance from the RCMP’s traffic re-constructionist.
