Police investigate counterfeit bill at the Fair

Weyburn police received a report of a counterfeit $50 bill having been passed at the fair. This was the only such complaint received during the week so was likely a singular incident. Anyone who has any suspect currency is asked to either contact the police for an assessment, or to have the currency examined at their financial institution.

Weyburn police were contacted regarding a young child who was lost at about 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. While investigating the matter the family attended to locate the child who had wandered away. This reinforces that it only takes a momentary lack of supervision for someone to wander off and become lost.

City police received a report of an adult missing from a care facility on Wednesday. The person was subsequently located and returned to her residence.

Weyburn police conducted a traffic stop of a suspected suspended driver at about 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Not only was the driver found to be suspended from a previous conviction for drinking and driving, but the driver was charged with driving while impaired by a drug.

City police received a complaint regarding graffiti being found on a large rock in the Barber Crescent area on Thursday. The matter is still under investigation. This type of activity besides being illegal degrades the surrounding area. Anyone having information on this is asked to contact either the Weyburn Police Service or to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Weyburn police were called to a family-related disturbance at a residence at about 7:20 a.m. on Thursday. The matter was resolved while police were in attendance and a family resident was taken to the local hospital for medical issues.

City police are investigating a report of a vehicle’s tires having been slashed while parked in the 1100 block of First Avenue NE on Thursday. 

Police were contacted regarding a person threatening self-harm on Thursday. The person was located and transported to the hospital for assessment.

Weyburn police are investigating a report of the theft of property from a business on Thursday. The investigation is ongoing. 

City police conducted a traffic stop at about 1:45 a.m. on Friday, resulting in the male driver being arrested and charged with driving over .08. His driver’s licence was suspended indefinitely and the vehicle was impounded.

Weyburn police received a complaint of shoplifting from a downtown business on Friday. The matter is under investigation.

Police dealt with an adult male who appeared to be passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle on Friday. He was subsequently arrested and is now facing a second charge of care and control of a motor vehicle while impaired by a drug.

Weyburn police responded to a report of a collision at 14th Street and McGillivray Drive on Saturday. As a result of the investigation a male driver of one of the vehicles was taken into custody for impaired driving and is now facing a charge of driving while over .08.

City police responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver at about 1 pm. on Saturday. The driver was identified and taken into custody. He has been charged with driving while over .08, having had a blood alcohol content of .340 (legal is 80). His licence was suspended indefinitely and the vehicle was impounded.

A traffic stop was conducted on Highway 13 on July 3, resulting in an adult male driver being arrested for driving while prohibited. He was also charged with operating an unregistered trailer.

City police were called regarding a welfare check on a person indicating they may harm themselves on July 3. The person was located and was transported to the local hospital for medical assistance. 

Police observed a gathering of people on the Government road bridge on June 24 at approximately 2:30 a.m. When police stopped to see what the group was up to, it was noticed that there had been damage done to a city planter. While on scene, a 24-year-old male jumped off of the bridge into the water. As a result, the male sustained minor injuries.

Police were able to get male out of the water and was arrested for drunk in public and released without charges. Investigation continues into the mischief to the city planter. Police strongly advise against this type of activity as it could have resulted in very serious injury or death of a person involved due to the dangers in the water.

Police received a report on June 24 that a resident’s silver Dodge Ram truck parked on South Hill was spray-painted with profanities and inappropriate drawings. If anyone has any information about this occurrence, they are encouraged to contact crime stoppers or the Weyburn Police Service.

Police received a report on June 24 that a male was observed in his doorway with his pants down, private parts exposed and masturbating. Consequently, the 32-year-old male was charged under section 173(1)(b) Criminal Code of Canada for an indecent act.

Police received a report that a passenger in a vehicle with four teenage males threw a firecracker at a young female on June 26 around 9:35 p.m. The female was not injured and matter is under investigation.

Police received a report of a motor vehicle accident at the corner of Prairie Avenue and Government Road on June 27. After the investigation was completed, a 16-year-old female driver was charged with proceeding from a stop sign before it was safe. There were no injuries.

City police received a report of small children driving a battery-powered jeep across a busy street on June 28. Police attended and spoke to guardians about safety concerns and not allowing children to drive on the roadway.

City police were dispatched to a domestic disturbance on June 30, which led to the arrest of a 41-year-old male for assault on two females, aged 18 and 39.  Investigation into the accused revealed that he was on multiple pre-existing probation orders. As a result, he received five breach charges between the two probation orders resulted. Four of these were for failing to keep the peace and be of good behaviour and one breach charge of an order for no contact with the 39-year-old victim if he had consumed alcohol within preceding 12 hours. The male was held for court.
